Corsair has announced the TC80, a new gaming chair that continues the company's push away from the loud, racing-seat aesthetic that's dominated the category for years. It's pitched as affordable, though Corsair hasn't dropped a price yet.
The TC80 follows the TC500 Luxe's lead — subtler branding, a muted color palette, and a more professional overall look. The armrests are "linkage" style, meaning they stay aligned with your forearms regardless of how far you recline, which directly addresses one of the main criticisms of the TC500 Luxe, where the arms sat too far from the seat. Recline tops out at 115 degrees, less than the TC100 Relaxed, but Corsair says that's enough for most people who aren't fully lying back. The backrest is slightly shorter and slimmer than the TC100 Relaxed, with a firmer central section designed for lumbar support, and there's a detachable neck pillow if you want one. High-density foam sits under the fabric, and Corsair claims it won't compress into an uncomfortable mess after a few years. The chair has also passed BIFMA and EN1335 certification — both involve serious stress and load testing.
The TC80 slots into a lineup that already includes the TC500 Luxe and the TC100 Relaxed, the latter of which held the top budget chair spot for a long time before being edged out by the ThunderX3 Solo 360. The TC80's flat, wide seat and fabric-first approach is clearly aimed at people who spend long hours at a desk before switching to gaming — Corsair specifically calls flat seats "ideal for longer workdays that turn into even longer gaming nights."
The big unknown is still the actual price. Corsair is leaning hard on the word "accessible" without committing to a number, so whether the TC80 genuinely competes in the budget segment or just sits at the lower end of mid-range remains to be seen.
