Sony's State of Play showcase today gave unsuspecting viewers Team Clout's debut trailer for Ill — a survival horror game due in 2027, published by the studio behind Atomic Heart — and it might be the goriest game trailer in recent memory.\n\nIn the space of a few minutes, the trailer delivers: an eye socket scooped out with a knife, two separate skull explosions (one from a close-range gunshot, one from stomping), a zombie baby's face punched to pieces, a neck slashed and then repeatedly stabbed, a head that separates from its body because the body just slides off a knife pinned to a wall, a leg shot clean off, and a naked man who wants you dead. The setting is a wrecked underground hospital — the Steam page calls it a \"huge research fort\" where a \"mysterious source of evil\" has spawned \"horrific Aberrations\". That last detail is presumably meant to make the baby skull-crushing feel more defensible.\n\nTeam Clout has film industry credentials — people on the team worked on Longlegs, V/H/S/Beyond, It: Welcome to Derry, and the Until Dawn film adaptation. The trailer's fixation on bone destruction is almost certainly a showcase for the studio's \"advanced physics interactions\" and \"advanced dismemberment system\", which is the same card horror developers have been playing for decades. The Callisto Protocol is the most recent notable example.\n\nSome of the tech on display is genuinely impressive from a pure graphics standpoint, but the environment — grimy underground lab — is as generic as first-person survival horror gets. Whether Team Clout has anything more to offer than zoomed-in ultraviolence is a question for 2027.
