American Truck Simulator announces North Dakota DLC with giant buffalo and prairie highways

SCS Software has announced a North Dakota expansion for American Truck Simulator, the latest addition to the game's ever-growing map of the United States and Canada. No release date has been set yet, but the DLC is now available to wishlist on Steam.

The expansion covers major cities including Fargo, Bismarck, Grand Forks, Minot, and Williston, plus smaller stops like Medora, which sits near Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Cargo runs will lean heavily on oil industry and agricultural hauls across rolling prairies. Landmarks include the World's Largest Buffalo in Jamestown, the Enchanted Highway sculptures, the Four Bears Bridge near New Town, the Scandinavian Heritage Park in Minot, and the North Dakota State Capitol in Bismarck. The trailer also shows a giant fiberglass catfish nicknamed Wahpper — though Salem Sue, a 38-foot cow visible from five miles away, hasn't appeared in any footage yet. North Dakota joins a pipeline of announced-but-undated expansions that also includes South Dakota, Indiana, and British Columbia — the last of which will be ATS's first venture into Canada.

American Truck Simulator launched back in 2016 and has been methodically filling in the US map ever since, with SCS Software releasing state DLCs at a steady pace. The game now sits at 61 DLCs on Steam, though that number includes free packs and smaller add-ons alongside the full state expansions. The most recent state to go live was Illinois, which dropped in May. North Dakota continues the gradual eastward push across the continent.

Community reaction is predictably tongue-in-cheek — Reddit users are already joking that SCS just needed to hit Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V on an empty field to build the whole state. Fair enough, but the string of roadside giants and art installations along North Dakota's highways should give truckers something to actually look at between grain silos.
