Samara Weaving's gamer credentials are going viral after her Emma Frost casting

Samara Weaving just landed the role of Emma Frost in Marvel's upcoming X-Men reboot, and fans quickly dug up something that made the casting even better — she's a dedicated gamer who hauls her PS5 in her suitcase to every job.

Weaving's gaming habits came up in two separate interviews. In March, she spoke with IGN alongside Ready or Not 2 co-star Kathryn Newton about their shared love of games, naming Assassin's Creed, Red Dead Redemption 2, Hogwarts Legacy, and Mortal Kombat as favorites. She said Kitana is her main and that she picks up fighting games unusually fast. "Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter, surprisingly, I was really good, really quick. I can beat a lot of people at Mortal Kombat. I don't know why. It speaks to me," she said. Then in June 2026, a Polygon Shelf Quest episode resurfaced where she described her PS5 travel ritual in full: "All my jobs, I pack my PlayStation 5 in my suitcase, which is insane. It takes up half the suitcase and no one can lift it and they all hate me. But I bring it to every AirBnB and hotel that I stay at." She also mentioned that her parents banned video games growing up, so she'd sneak sessions at friends' houses — which might explain the intensity now.

The X-Men reboot is directed by Jake Schreier, and casting on multiple roles reportedly kicked off back in May. Marvel stayed unusually quiet during its Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con in July, which has fans hoping D23 — running August 14–16 — is where the studio finally shows its hand.

The gaming revelation sent fans into a frenzy online. "Imagine you're getting your ass kicked by a Kitana, and it's her," one person wrote on X. Others speculated she might already be playing Emma Frost in Marvel Rivals. Whether or not that's true, the combination of a near-perfect physical resemblance and genuine gamer credibility has the fanbase more enthusiastic about this casting than most.
