Konami is giving away the original Castlevania on mobile for free as part of the series' 40th anniversary celebrations. The 1986 NES classic — the one that started Simon Belmont's vampire-hunting legacy — is available to download at no cost on iOS and Android.
No additional details about how long the free offer runs or whether any extras are bundled with the mobile version were provided in the source.
Castlevania launched in Japan in 1986 and became one of the defining action-platformers of the NES era, eventually spawning dozens of entries across nearly every platform imaginable. The series went quiet for years after Lords of Shadow 2 in 2014, but the acclaimed Netflix animated series reignited mainstream interest and Konami has been more active with the IP since — including the Castlevania Dominus Collection released in 2024.
For fans who want to revisit where it all began, grabbing the original game for free on your phone is a pretty easy sell.
