The Thief franchise is making a comeback on two fronts in 2026. Alongside the announced Thief: The Dark Project Remastered heading to PC and consoles this winter, a new 147-page graphic novel called Thief: Pulse of Promise is now crowdfunding on BackerKit.
Pulse of Promise is a collaboration between Bit Bot and Eidos-Montréal, written by Joshua Viola — known for Legacy of Kain and The Rocky Horror Show — and Sean Eads. Interior art comes from Emanuele Ercolani and Gianluca Papi, with lettering by Jeremiah Lambert. The story slots in between 1998's Thief: The Dark Project and 2000's Thief II: The Metal Age, following master thief Garrett as a routine heist pulls him into buried Keeper secrets, strange powers lurking beneath the City, and a mysterious boy whose fate could reshape the future. Fan-favorite characters Artemus and Father Karras both appear.
Writer Joshua Viola says every element of the book was developed in close collaboration with Eidos-Montréal to make sure the story, characters, and factions feel authentic to that era of Garrett's life. Bit Bot Creative Director Frank O'Connor called Thief "one of the most innovative and influential modern dark fantasy stories" and said he's genuinely excited to see the franchise's storytelling expand into graphic novel format.
Three editions are available through the BackerKit campaign: a standard hardcover with a cover by Ercolani, a Limited Hardcover Edition with a cover by Claudio Mastronardi, and a Deluxe Hardcover Edition featuring a cover by Tyler Kirkham, a slipcase, and bonus content. Optional collectibles include a Garrett statue, a plush doll, art prints, and a Garrett mechanical eye collector's set. Backers who pre-register also get an exclusive custom-minted Thief coin.
