ANA's New Pokemon Jet Celebrates 30 Years With Themed Cups, Napkins, and In-Flight Movies

Japanese airline All Nippon Airways has unveiled the Green Pokemon Jet, a fully themed airliner marking the Pokemon franchise's 30th anniversary. The plane made its inaugural flight from Haneda to Honolulu today after a dedicated unveiling event.

The exterior wrap features classic Pokemon including Bulbasaur and Pikachu, plus Browt — a newer Pokemon set to appear in the upcoming Winds and Waves games. Inside, the theming goes deep: headrest covers, paper cups, and napkins all carry Pokemon branding. Passengers can also tap into Pokemon-themed in-flight entertainment, including Pokemon: The First Movie and a best-of soundtrack spanning the show's run from 1997 to 2023. Beyond the Haneda–Honolulu route, the plane will serve airports across Okinawa, Kyushu, and Shikoku.

This isn't ANA's first Pokemon crossover — back in 2024 the airline produced a Pokemon-themed safety video featuring the franchise's monsters walking passengers through emergency procedures. The broader history of Pokemon planes goes back even further: in 2000, Japan Airlines put Pokemon characters on the sides of its domestic fleet and paired them with themed in-flight entertainment. Given that Pokemon was born in Japan and remains one of the country's most globally recognized cultural exports, the partnership between Japanese carriers and the franchise has always felt like a natural fit.

No word yet on how long the Green Pokemon Jet will stay in service or whether ANA plans additional routes, but the level of detail — right down to the napkins — suggests this is a serious long-term branding effort rather than a one-off stunt.
