Asus ROG Strix XG32UQWMS review: 32-inch 4K OLED at $899 with LG's latest Tandem panel

Asus ROG Strix XG32UQWMS is a 32-inch 4K OLED gaming monitor priced at $899, built around LG's newest Tandem Primary RGB OLED panel. It hits 240 Hz at native 4K and doubles up to 480 Hz in a 1080p dual mode — a feature that's becoming more common on 4K OLEDs but still a pleasant surprise at this price point.

The panel pushes full-screen brightness to 330 nits, up from 275 nits on previous 32-inch LG OLED monitors, and peaks at 1,500 nits HDR in a small window. Both figures beat what MSI claims for the MPG 322UR X24 — 300 nits full-screen and 1,000 nits peak — which uses Samsung's latest QD-OLED 32-inch panel. The Asus also earns VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification, same as the MSI, but costs $200 less at $899 versus $1,099. Color coverage lands at 99.5% DCI-P3, putting it on competitive footing with QD-OLED. Asus adds that this LG panel generation is 60% more durable in terms of light-emitting lifespan. The glossy panel coating is a deliberate choice to maximize OLED's contrast strengths, though it won't suit every setup. Connectivity includes 2x HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4, and a USB-A hub — the one notable absence is USB-C, which limits convenience for laptop users.

LG's Tandem OLED technology stacks two OLED layers to push brightness higher than traditional single-layer OLED panels, which have historically struggled to match LCD in peak HDR output. This latest generation appears to close that gap meaningfully, and the color gamut improvement brings it closer to QD-OLED's long-standing advantage in that area. It's worth noting Asus is also planning a version of this monitor with LG's RGB-stripe subpixel Tandem OLED — the XG32UQWMS uses a different subpixel layout, so buyers expecting that specific configuration should wait for that model.

Motion clarity in the 480 Hz 1080p dual mode is described as outstanding in testing. At $899, the XG32UQWMS positions itself as one of the more aggressively priced 32-inch 4K OLEDs on the market, especially given the generational panel upgrade over its predecessors.
