Battlefield 6 is free to play for a limited time, with the trial window running from June 30 through July 6. It's not the most straightforward access path, but it's worth knowing before you go looking in the wrong place.

The trial doesn't live on the Battlefield 6 Steam page — you get it through Battlefield Redsec, EA's free-to-play portal, which is also available on the Epic Games Store and the EA App. Once you're in, the trial unlocks five modes: Tactical Obliteration, Breakthrough, Conquest, Escalation, and Casual Breakthrough, across four maps — Railway to Golmud, Cairo Bazaar, Contaminated, and Eastwood. That's a solid chunk of the game to get a feel for before committing.

Battlefield 6 landed an 82% from PC Gamer, with reviewer Morgan Park describing it as a love letter to the chaotic, unserious large-scale warfare the series built its reputation on over the past two decades. Park's take cuts to the heart of what the game is going for: "the guy obsessed with metas is having the least fun" — meaning BF6 rewards spectacle and improvisation over optimised loadouts and sweaty play. That framing will either sell you on it immediately or tell you it's not your thing, which is honestly useful information before you spend money.
