Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 gets PS5 Pro visual boost — at a $900 price

Sony has confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will benefit from PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) on the PS5 Pro, along with increased graphics quality at both 120Hz and 60Hz modes, and an unlocked framerate when VRR and 120Hz are enabled simultaneously. The game launches October 23, with Infinity Ward leading development.

Both the base PS5 and PS5 Pro will run the game at 4K, though Sony didn't clarify whether either version uses upscaling from a lower internal resolution — which is standard practice for most current-gen releases. The PS5 Pro's PSSR advantage is real, but it comes at a steep cost: after Sony's recent price hike, the console now carries an MSRP of $900, making it the priciest home console of this generation. The PS5 Pro has been picking up more PSSR-enhanced titles lately — Cyberpunk 2077, Alan Wake 2, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced have all received the treatment.

Activision also recently showed off Modern Warfare 4's new Kill Block map, described as a mashup of several fan-favorite Call of Duty maps built into a single arena. More details on the game are coming this weekend at Fanatics Fest, where Infinity Ward studio head Mark Grigsby and Activision marketing executive Tyler Bahl will appear on a panel alongside actor Inde Navarrette and NBA star Kevin Durant.
