Final Fantasy 7 Revelation hot springs give the party swimsuit skins and permanent HP boosts

Square Enix revealed a hot springs feature for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation during SDCC Málaga, and the studio followed up with gameplay footage on social media. The mechanic lets the party stop at hidden hot spring locations scattered across the world map, granting a permanent max HP increase and triggering exclusive character conversations you can't hear anywhere else in the game.

Director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed on X/Twitter that the bathing suit outfits worn during these scenes can be unlocked as wearable skins. Footage shown so far covers Cloud, Barret, and Cid in new swimwear. Red XIII can soak in the springs too, though his lack of clothing means any skin he gets probably won't change much visually. Vincent Valentine, true to form, refuses to change out of his signature outfit entirely — he apparently bathes in the same gear he fights in. "Each hot spring offers a different glimpse into the characters' everyday lives," Hamaguchi wrote, "and the outfits featured in these events can also be unlocked as skins. Explore the world, discover hot springs, and enjoy these special moments with your companions."

The hot springs slot neatly into the remake trilogy's tradition of giving the cast room to breathe between world-ending stakes. Rebirth had its Costa del Sol beach day; Revelation is going the onsen route. Hamaguchi has been unusually open about the game in recent weeks — he told IGN last month that players can opt into automatic leveling to skip grinding, and he's estimated the story alone can run well over 100 hours. The Platinum Trophy, he noted, isn't especially demanding on its own.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation launches April 8, 2027 on PC, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. With the hot springs now confirmed, the bigger question for many fans is whether a full-disc physical release will make the cut — Hamaguchi has already been asked, and his response is worth a look.
