Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will take over 100 hours for completionists, director says

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation director Naoki Hamaguchi has given the clearest indication yet of just how big the remake trilogy's finale will be — completionist runs will "easily take over a hundred hours," he told GameSpot. The game launches April 8, 2027 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Hamaguchi's estimate comes from his own experience: he's already completed 46 full playthroughs of the game and still can't check every asset in a single pass. "In a standard playthrough from beginning to end, if I were to review and check every single asset and element in the game, it'll easily take over a hundred hours," he said, adding that as director he often skips combat just to focus on the main story. He's so committed to quality-checking that he brought a PS5 controller to a recent press event to test the latest build during downtime. On the technical side, Hamaguchi previously told VGC that the game could require around 200GB of storage.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation wraps up the three-part reimagining of the 1997 classic. Remake launched in 2020 and Rebirth in 2024 — both were already substantial RPGs, but Revelation looks set to dwarf them. The game centers on Cloud, Tifa, Barret, Vincent Valentine, and the rest of the crew making their final stand against Sephiroth, with the iconic airship Highwind serving as the hub for world travel. Square Enix has packed in more mini-games, battles, and explorable areas than either predecessor.

With the April 2027 launch still months away, Hamaguchi's 100-hour figure could shift — but the direction of travel is clear. IGN has already gone hands-on with a preview build, and the early impressions suggest Square Enix is swinging for the fences on the trilogy's conclusion.
