God of War Laufey actor Deborah Ann Woll shrugs off sexist trolls: 'I feel totally unbothered'

Deborah Ann Woll, the actor voicing and mo-capping Faye in God of War Laufey, says the wave of online hostility aimed at the game hasn't got to her — and she sounds genuinely at ease about it.

Woll was appearing at Florida Supercon last weekend when a fan warned her not to let the misogyny online get her down. Her response was disarmingly calm. "Genuinely, I thought I was going to be much more affected by it, but one, I'm not on social media so that helps, and two, I don't know, I feel totally unbothered because I just know it's great," she told the fan in a clip that circulated on TikTok via user @quinnphobic.

God of War Laufey was announced last month and has faced a sustained backlash from a vocal corner of the internet, almost entirely because it's the first mainline God of War game not to put Kratos front and center. Instead, it follows Faye — Kratos's late wife — through the afterlife. The previous games, particularly God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök, built Faye up as a formidable warrior whose choices quietly drove the entire Norse saga, so the premise isn't exactly a stretch. That hasn't stopped the usual crowd from treating a female-led entry in an established franchise as a personal affront.

Woll staying off social media is clearly doing its job. The fan encounter at Supercon, where she also received letters and artwork from supporters, paints a picture of someone who knows what she's made and isn't losing sleep over the noise.
