League of Legends Riftbound Vendetta Reveals Gangplank as New Champion Card

Riftbound Vendetta, the fourth booster set for the League of Legends card game Riftbound, is nearly here — and IGN has an exclusive first look at one of its new champion units: Gangplank, a rare card with a full art overnumbered variant.

Gangplank costs six and comes in at six might, making him a hefty investment. His defining feature is the Empower keyword — once empowered, he becomes extremely difficult to remove. Any spell or ability that tries to stun him, reduce his might, or bounce him off the field is simply nullified, and Gangplank gains +3 might instead of suffering the effect. He essentially absorbs those interactions and grows stronger for it. He's also a Body (Orange) card, meaning he benefits from staying Mighty and holding battlefields, and his rune color gives him additional tools to work with. The combination of his nullification effects and natural staying power could make him a hard counter to specific deck archetypes if opponents can't deal with him before he gets empowered.

Riftbound launched as Riot Games' physical card game built around the League of Legends universe, steadily expanding its roster of champions across each new set. Vendetta follows Unleashed as the fourth set in the game's growing library, continuing to pull from the wide bench of League champions and introduce new mechanics with each release.

Riftbound Vendetta hits shelves in English on July 31, with pre-release events at local game stores starting as early as July 24.
