Mistfall Hunter players want duos mode, but Bellring Games says no

Mistfall Hunter launched on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on July 29, and in the nearly three weeks since, one community request has dominated the subreddit: a dedicated duos mode. Bellring Games has already said it's not happening — at least for now.

The calls for duos go back to the open beta and haven't let up. On the official subreddit, posts from players like broman510, Matta114, and PuwudleRS have racked up significant upvotes, with the core complaint being simple: not everyone can reliably field a full trio. Queuing as two means getting a random third, and randoms in Mistfall Hunter have a reputation for poor communication, abandoning fights, and looting corpses while teammates are still dying nearby. One player, kennypeace, laid it out bluntly on August 5 — between the lack of comms, teammates flaking mid-fight, and loot-sniping melee players who can grab bodies first, the trio experience is rough. PuwudleRS put it more dramatically in an August 8 post that pulled 1.3k upvotes: "I am addicted to this game, but I CRAVE the duo experience this game has to offer. Please devs, I am begging with my life."

Bellring Games addressed the request directly back in March 2026 on X, acknowledging duos as a "highly requested feature" before explaining why it won't happen right now. The studio's concern is twofold: matchmaking efficiency would take a hit, and balancing duos alongside existing solo and trio modes is genuinely difficult. "It is difficult to ensure balanced gameplay for duos while also maintaining balance for trio and solo modes," the studio wrote. "For now, we are prioritizing other areas of development." Mistfall Hunter is a fairly novel concept — an extraction brawler that blends souls-like melee combat with the loot-and-escape loop of extraction shooters — so the balancing concern isn't entirely without merit. Trios are clearly the intended unit of play, and designing around a second team size adds real complexity.

Despite the official stance, players haven't dropped it. The community has been pushing members to flood Bellring's Discord support server with duos suggestions, and by all accounts it's working — the server is now packed with the same requests. Bellring hasn't issued any follow-up statement beyond the March post on X, so the standoff looks set to continue for the foreseeable future.
