Mutant Mayhem gets a comic book sequel this fall before the movie arrives in 2027

The Mutant Mayhem version of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is heading to comics again this fall with Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Coastal Chaos, published by IDW. The movie sequel doesn't land until August 13, 2027, so the comics are keeping that corner of the TMNT universe active in the meantime.

Coastal Chaos follows the six-issue series Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which was IDW's first comic set in the Mutant Mayhem continuity. The new series pulls in a deep-cut villain from 1990s TMNT comics — Polygon has an exclusive first look at the images.

Mutant Mayhem, produced by Seth Rogen and released in 2023, was widely praised as the best TMNT film in decades, earning strong reviews for its hand-drawn animation style and younger take on the four brothers. IDW has a long history with TMNT comics, making them a natural fit to expand this continuity while Paramount preps the theatrical follow-up.

With the movie still two years out, Coastal Chaos gives fans something to chew on — and digging up an obscure 90s villain suggests IDW is leaning into the franchise's deeper lore rather than just retelling the film.
