Rayman Origins Runs in 4K on PS5 via Backward Compatibility

Rayman Origins, Ubisoft's acclaimed 2011 platformer, is running in 4K on PS5 through backward compatibility — and it looks sharp.

The PS5's backward compatibility system is upscaling the PS3/PS4 version of the game to 4K, and the hand-drawn art style holds up remarkably well at the higher resolution. No remaster or re-release is involved — this is the existing version benefiting from the hardware boost.

Rayman Origins was a critical darling when it launched, praised for its fluid animation, tight platforming, and Michel Ancel's signature visual style. It was followed by Rayman Legends in 2013, which many consider the stronger game, but Origins remains a fan favourite. Neither game has received a proper modern remaster despite both aging gracefully.

There's no word on a dedicated PS5 upgrade or remaster from Ubisoft, but for anyone who already owns the game digitally, booting it up on PS5 is apparently worth doing just for the visual bump alone.
