Silent Hill: Downpour fan PC port restores cut boss fight and deleted content

A fan developer known as Indie_RU is building a native PC port of Silent Hill: Downpour — the 2012 open-world-leaning entry in the series — and it goes well beyond a straight emulation wrapper. The port is expected to release around September or October this year.

Beyond the expected quality-of-life upgrades like an uncapped framerate and higher resolutions, the port is restoring a significant amount of cut content. That includes extra weapons such as the Bogeyman's hammer, deleted cutscenes, notes, dialogue, and entire sidequests that didn't make the final release. Most notably, it brings back a full boss battle against the "Monocle Man" — a character who appeared in early trailers but was reduced to a brief cameo in the shipped game.

Downpour originally launched on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and has never had an official PC release, making emulation via RPCS3 the only realistic way to play it today. The game was developed by Vatra Games, a Czech studio, and represented one of Konami's attempts to hand the Silent Hill license to a western developer — following Homecoming, which Double Helix built for the PS3 and Xbox 360 generation. Downpour was a mixed bag critically, but its sidequest structure — including a genuinely unsettling ribbon-trail mystery — earned it a degree of affection from series fans that its main plot never quite managed.

The September/October window puts the port's release in the same rough timeframe as Silent Hill: Townfall, the upcoming entry from Scottish studio Screen Burn Interactive. With Silent Hill F also on the horizon, the series is in an unusually active period, which makes a restored and playable version of Downpour a timely way to revisit where the franchise has been.
