Star Racer, the futuristic anti-gravity racer that launched a Kickstarter campaign back in November 2023, is officially confirmed for Nintendo Switch with a Q3 2026 release window. A Switch port was originally a stretch goal on that campaign, and it's now crossed the finish line.

The game wears its F-Zero inspiration openly — fast, high-speed racing with a retro aesthetic that echoes the SNES and N64 era of the series, while folding in enough modern touches to feel fresh rather than purely nostalgic. Adding to the pedigree, the soundtrack comes from Grant Kirkhope, the composer behind Banjo-Kazooie, GoldenEye 007, and Donkey Kong 64, among others.

F-Zero has been dormant since F-Zero GX launched on GameCube back in 2003. Nintendo has shown no signs of reviving the franchise, which has left a gap that indie developers have been happy to fill. Star Racer is one of the more polished attempts at scratching that itch, and Kirkhope's involvement gives it a profile boost well beyond the typical indie racing game.

With Q3 2026 still a ways off, more details on track counts, modes, and pricing are likely to surface closer to launch. For Switch owners who've been waiting decades for Nintendo to remember F-Zero exists, this looks like the best available alternative.
