Xbox Backward Compatibility on PC launches with Blinx, Conker, Crimson Skies, and Fuzion Frenzy

Xbox has announced Backward Compatibility on PC, a new emulation program bringing classic Xbox games to PC and handhelds like the ROG Xbox Ally for the first time. The first wave of four titles — Blinx: The Time Sweeper, Conker: Live and Reloaded, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, and Fuzion Frenzy — is available right now.

Each game costs $9.99 to buy separately (regional pricing may vary) and is included with all Xbox Game Pass plans. If you already own a digital license for any of these on console, that license carries over to PC automatically. The emulation layer supports graphics settings including up to 4x resolution upscaling, VSync, fullscreen and windowed modes, anisotropic filtering, and enhanced anti-aliasing. Cloud gaming is supported too. Achievements are coming to all four titles in the months ahead, and Xbox VP of next generation Jason Ronald says more features are planned down the line.

The timing is notable. Microsoft just cut 3,200 jobs and shuttered four studios — Double Fine, Compulsion, Ninja Theory among them — and Xbox leadership's recent comments about the future of exclusives have done little to reassure players. The original Xbox backward compatibility program, which eventually covered hundreds of Xbox 360 and original Xbox titles on console, was one of the brand's clearest differentiators last generation. Bringing that philosophy to PC is a logical extension, especially as rivals like Sony move in the opposite direction — PlayStation is dropping physical media entirely by 2028, and it's still unclear whether PS6 will support discs at all.

The abrupt, small-scale nature of this first wave — four games, no achievements yet, features still incoming — reads less like a confident rollout and more like a fast reveal pulled forward to generate goodwill amid a rough news cycle. Whether it expands into a sustained program or stalls out will depend on how quickly Xbox follows up with more titles and the promised feature additions.
