Xbox Sales More Than Doubled in June 2026 as PS5 and Switch 2 Declined

Circana's June 2026 US video game sales report is out, and Xbox Series X|S was the only console platform to post year-over-year growth — unit sales jumped 86% compared to June 2025, and dollar sales more than doubled. It was also the best month of 2026 so far for Xbox hardware.

Circana analyst Mat Piscatella noted that the June 2025 baseline for Xbox was artificially low — the price increase that took effect in May 2025 had suppressed sales the following month, making the year-over-year comparison more flattering. Switch 2 unit sales dropped 78% and hardware spending fell 79% versus June 2025, but that's almost entirely a launch-window comparison problem: June 2025 was the Switch 2's launch month, so the numbers were never going to hold up. PS5 had a rougher read — unit sales fell 43% and dollar sales dropped 19%, with no such easy explanation to soften the decline. Despite all that, Switch 2 still ranked first in both unit and dollar sales for June 2026, and it remains the best-selling platform of 2026 overall, with PS5 second and Xbox Series X|S third.

Xbox's gains weren't enough to offset the declines elsewhere. Total US hardware spending in June 2026 fell 62%, landing at $383 million — a steep drop that reflects both the Switch 2's post-launch cooldown and broader softness in the market. Xbox has been working to rebuild momentum after a difficult stretch, and the Series X|S lineup has faced persistent questions about its long-term hardware strategy, particularly as Microsoft leans harder into Game Pass and multiplatform releases.

On the software side, UFC 6 topped the US charts for June 2026. Resident Evil Requiem continues to lead 2026's overall game sales rankings — a strong showing for Capcom's latest entry in the long-running survival horror series.
