Amazon Boss Doubles Down on Commitment to James Bond 007 Games

Amazon MGM Studios boss Mike Hopkins has spoken again about the future of James Bond 007 games, reaffirming the company's intent to treat the franchise with care. His comments come as Amazon continues to hold the gaming rights to the Bond IP following its acquisition of MGM.

Hopkins stated plainly: "We're going to do what's right by the game" — signaling that Amazon isn't rushing to greenlight just anything with Bond's name on it. No specific developer, release window, or platform was announced alongside the remarks.

Amazon acquired MGM in 2022 for roughly $8.5 billion, bringing the James Bond IP under its umbrella alongside the film and TV rights. The Bond gaming license has had a complicated history — from the landmark GoldenEye 007 on N64 to a string of licensed titles in the 2000s, and more recently the well-received but short-lived GoldenEye 007 remaster that briefly appeared on Nintendo Switch and Xbox before licensing issues pulled it. Finding a studio willing and able to do the franchise justice has proven tricky for rights holders.

Fans are cautiously optimistic but understandably want more than reassuring words — a concrete developer announcement would go a long way. For now, Amazon is playing it close to the chest, and Bond gaming fans are left waiting to see who actually gets the license.
