Halo: The Fall of Reach Audiobook Brings Back Steve Downes and Jen Taylor

Simon & Schuster Audio is releasing a full-cast audiobook adaptation of Halo: The Fall of Reach on November 10, 2026, timed to the 25th anniversary of the Halo franchise. It marks the first time Eric Nylund's 2001 novel — the official prequel to Halo: Combat Evolved — has received the full-cast audio treatment.

Steve Downes and Jen Taylor reprise their iconic roles as Master Chief and Cortana respectively. The production goes beyond a straight reading, weaving in the Halo theme and in-game sound effects, including the series' famously panicked Grunt audio. The story follows Dr. Catherine Halsey's top-secret Spartan program, beginning with 75 children — among them a six-year-old named John — and tracing the path that leads to humanity's desperate stand against the Covenant.

The Fall of Reach has been a cornerstone of Halo lore since it launched two weeks before Halo: Combat Evolved in November 2001. Nylund's novel has gone through multiple revised editions over the years, but this audiobook is a new format milestone for the title. Having Downes and Taylor in the booth gives it an authenticity that a standard narrator reading couldn't match — these are the voices players associate with those characters across more than two decades of games.
