Atari is bringing back classic Toy Story games with Retro Roundup and a Toy Story 3 Complete Edition

Atari announced two Toy Story projects at Summer Game Fest — Toy Story Retro Roundup, a classic game collection, and Toy Story 3 Complete Edition, a remaster. Both are developed by Digital Eclipse, the studio behind Tetris Forever, Atari 50: The Anniversary Collection, Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection.

Toy Story Retro Roundup packs in multiple versions of the 1995 Toy Story game — Genesis, SNES, and Game Boy — alongside Toy Story 2 on Game Boy Color, Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue on PS1 (both 1999), Buzz Lightyear of Star Command on PS1 and Game Boy Color (2000), Toy Story Racer on the same platforms (2001), and A Bug's Life on PS1 and Game Boy Color (1998) as a bonus. The PS1 titles get upscaled visuals, though original resolutions are available as an option. Quality-of-life additions include save states, rewind, invincibility cheats, level unlocks, unlimited lives, a practice mode with guided playthroughs, and modernized control instructions. Digital Eclipse is also including archival material — new interviews, concept art, and ad scans — in line with their previous collections.

Digital Eclipse has built a strong reputation for this kind of preservation work. Their collections don't just dump ROMs onto a menu — they treat the source material seriously, adding historical context and making old games accessible without stripping away the originals. That approach fits Toy Story Retro Roundup well, given how many of these titles were platform-specific and genuinely different games despite sharing a name.

The preview at SGF was hands-off, so there's no release date or pricing confirmed yet. Toy Story 3 Complete Edition was also shown but the source article was cut off before full details on that remaster were revealed. More information is expected as both projects get closer to launch.
