Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2 prequel comic arrives in December

Marvel Comics is launching a new Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man prequel comic series in December, bridging the gap between the animated show's first and second seasons ahead of the series' return on Disney+ in early 2027.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #1 hits shelves on December 9 and is available to preorder now at local comic shops. The series is written by Christos Gage and drawn by Eric Gapstur — the same creative team behind the first prequel comic. The story picks up after Norman Osborn's downfall in Season 1, with Peter Parker drifting from his friends while a new conspiracy brews inside Oscorp — one that Harry Osborn believes isn't finished yet. Gage teased appearances from Daredevil and classic Spider-Man villains making their debut in this continuity, though he quickly walked that back as a spoiler. Showrunner Jeff Trammell is coordinating with the comic team to keep the story firmly within the show's official continuity, the same approach used for the first prequel series.

Gage said he's "beyond excited" to return, adding that Gapstur has "leveled up" since the first run. The Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man animated series launched on Disney+ as part of Marvel's push to expand its animated universe, drawing on a Silver Age aesthetic while introducing new characters alongside familiar ones. The prequel comic approach mirrors what Marvel did with X-Men '97, using comics to fill narrative gaps between seasons rather than leaving fans with nothing during the wait.

With Season 2 still a ways off in early 2027, the December comic gives fans something concrete to dig into. Gage closed his statement by saying he hopes to do it again next year — suggesting more prequel material could follow if the series continues beyond Season 2.
