Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender hits Paramount+ on July 25 after a rough road

Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender finally has an official release date — the animated film lands exclusively on Paramount+ on July 25, 2026. Paramount confirmed the date alongside a new trailer dropped on July 7.

The film follows Avatar Aang as he discovers an ancient power that could save Airbender culture from extinction, racing to secure it before it falls into the wrong hands. Eric Nam voices Aang, with Dave Bautista as Tagah, Jessica Matten as Katara, Román Zaragoza as Sokka, Steven Yeun as Zuko, and Dionne Quan as Toph. The cast also includes Freida Pinto, Ke Huy Quan, Taika Waititi, Geraldine Viswanathan, Ronny Chieng, and Ken Jeong. Dee Bradley Baker returns to voice Appa and Momo.

Getting here wasn't smooth. Back in April, the full film leaked on X/Twitter after someone allegedly sent it to an outside account by mistake — though Paramount's own investigation found no vulnerability in its systems. A 26-year-old man was later arrested in Singapore in connection with the leak. The theatrical release drama added more turbulence: Paramount had originally scheduled Avatar Aang for cinemas on October 9, 2026, but quietly pivoted to a Paramount+-exclusive strategy for all Avatar Studios content. That decision landed badly with fans, especially given how well anime films performed at the box office last year — Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle pulled in $774 million globally. An animator on the film pushed back against people using Paramount's streaming decision to justify watching the leak, and Michaela Jill Murphy, the original voice of Toph Beifong in the animated series, urged fans to skip the leaked version entirely. Olivia Hack, who voiced Ty Lee in the original show, joined fan calls asking Paramount to reverse course and put the film in theaters.

With a confirmed date now locked in and a new trailer out, the conversation is likely to shift back to the film itself — though whether the theatrical debate fully dies down before July 25 is another question.
