Bandai Namco reveals Tekken! Cartoon, a toy-styled animated take on the fighting game series

Bandai Namco dropped a teaser on June 26 for Tekken! Cartoon — an animated offshoot of the long-running fighting game franchise that reimagines its cast with bright, toy-like visuals. The roughly 90-second trailer mixes live action and animation, and it's about as far from Tekken 8's gritty aesthetic as you can get.

Five characters appear in the teaser: Kazuya, Kuma, Yoshimitsu, Paul, and Alisa. The official description reads, "Your favorite Tekken characters are coming out of the ring and into the cartoon world!" Bandai Namco is pointing fans to its social channels for further updates. The YouTube credits name animator Amerhiro, whose existing work on X and Instagram shares the same chunky, colorful style seen in the trailer. No release date, platform, or plot details have been announced.

Tekken has dabbled in animation before — Netflix's Tekken: Bloodline premiered in 2022 with a look much closer to the games. Tekken! Cartoon is a sharp stylistic departure, landing somewhere closer to late-'90s Cartoon Network than a prestige anime adaptation. The announcement also comes during a turbulent stretch for the franchise: series veteran Katsuhiro Harada left in December 2025, and Tekken 7 and 8 director Kohei Ikeda departed just weeks ago. Tekken 8 itself is still active, with Baki's Yujiro Hanma confirmed as an upcoming DLC character.

Fan reaction is a mix of amusement and genuine confusion. "I thought this was an ad for Tekken snacks or something," one commenter wrote, while another joked "TEKKEN BABIES IS REAL!!" Several fans are also asking why there's still no word on a Tekken: Bloodline season 2 while this new project gets announced. Bandai Namco hasn't addressed that question yet.
