Be Quiet Dark Rock 6 and Dark Rock Pro 6 review: great coolers, brutal prices

Be Quiet's Dark Rock 6 and Dark Rock Pro 6 are the best air coolers the company has ever made — but at $110 and $130 respectively, they're also among the most expensive on the market, and that price tag is hard to justify.

Both coolers are a clear step up from their predecessors. The Dark Rock 6 ships with a custom 135 mm Silent Wings fan — 15 mm larger than the one on the Dark Rock 5 — that can spin up to 2000 RPM and includes a semi-passive mode toggled by a small P/Q switch on the fan shroud. Performance mode follows your motherboard fan curve; Quiet mode cuts RPM at lower duty cycles and shuts the fan off entirely below 40%. The Dark Rock Pro 6 adds a second 120 mm fan, a seventh heatpipe (versus six on the standard), and a 7-pin connector linking both fans together. On paper, the Pro is rated to 300W TDP versus 220W for the standard model, and both support AM5, AM4, and Intel LGA 1851 through 1155 sockets. In thermal testing with a Core i7-14700K, the Dark Rock 6 trades blows with the Arctic Freezer 36 — one of the top budget air cooler picks — and the Pro 6 pulls ahead further.

The all-black aesthetic is genuinely striking, and Be Quiet has always had a strong identity around silent, good-looking hardware. The Dark Rock line has historically sat in the premium tier of air cooling, but previous generations were competitive on price with rivals like Noctua and DeepCool. At $110–$130, these new models carry a $60–$100 premium over equally capable alternatives, which is a tough sell when air cooling's main appeal is cost-effectiveness compared to liquid cooling.

If you're building a system where the all-black look is non-negotiable, the Dark Rock 6 duo delivers on aesthetics and performance. But if raw value is the priority, the same money buys you a lot more cooler elsewhere.
