BG3 mod gives Astarion's vampire spawn ending the farewell hug it was missing

Modder HyperspaceTowel has added a new cutscene to Baldur's Gate 3 that fixes one of the more emotionally abrupt moments in Astarion's companion questline. The mod, called Follow Astarion - New Endgame Cutscene, is available on Nexus Mods and was created as part of an ongoing modathon.

In the vanilla game, choosing to keep Astarion as a vampire spawn rather than ascending him ends with him bolting into the shadows to escape the sun — and the player character just standing there, not following. With the mod installed, your character instead tracks him down behind some crates on the docks and shares a wordless hug with him. HyperspaceTowel is clear about the conditions: you need to be in a romance with Astarion and physically present on the docks at the end of the game for the cutscene to trigger. It won't fire if your chosen ending takes you somewhere else.

HyperspaceTowel is no stranger to deep BG3 modding — earlier this year they restored a large volume of cut content from the game's early access period, including over 100 conversations that never made it into the final release. Astarion remains one of the most popular companions in the game, and the spawn ending in particular has drawn long-running complaints from players who felt the farewell didn't match the emotional weight of a full playthrough romance.

Comments on both the Nexus Mods page and the YouTube demo video make clear this has been a sore point for a while, and the reaction to the fix has been warm. The mod also works alongside Astarion Docks Narrator, though the sources don't detail that interaction further.
