Deepward Is a 1920s FPS Roguelite Where You Swap Between Three Heroes Mid-Fight

Echofall Games has announced Deepward, a high-speed first-person shooter roguelite set in the 1920s. No release window yet, but it's heading to PC and a reveal trailer is already out.

The core hook is a roster of six heroes — you pick three before each run and can swap between them on the fly during combat. Each hero brings their own weapons, abilities, playstyle, and backstory. Death is permanent, so every descent into the depths starts fresh. The game describes its combat as "gore-heavy," built around close-range encounters that mix shooting, kicking, slashing, and improvisation against relentless enemies. Environments span gothic interiors, caves, prisons, ritual spaces, and stranger locations as the story's buried truth surfaces.

Deepward sits in a crowded but hungry corner of the market — fast, punishing FPS roguelites have found a solid audience since games like Roboquest and Gunfire Reborn proved the formula works. The 1920s gothic horror setting gives Echofall a distinct visual angle, and the three-hero swap mechanic adds a tactical wrinkle that most genre entries skip.

The game is currently on Steam for wishlisting, with no launch date announced.
