Disney Lorcana is playtesting its own Commander-style format at Gen Con 2026

Disney Lorcana is testing a new multiplayer format — codenamed after the Moana song lyric "Consider the coconut" — that's designed as the game's answer to Magic: The Gathering's Commander format. Playtesting kicked off this week at Gen Con 2026, running July 30 through August 2 in Indianapolis.

That's essentially all that's confirmed so far. The codename is a nod to the Moana song "Where You Are," in which Chief Tui urges his daughter to stay on Motunui — and the coconut gets its own punchy refrain. The name signals the format is still in early development rather than a finished product ready to announce.

Commander is Magic: The Gathering's most popular casual format, built around 100-card singleton decks led by a legendary creature. It dominates tabletop MTG in terms of product sales and community engagement, so it makes sense that Lorcana would want its own equivalent. Whether the Lorcana version follows similar rules — a lead character card, larger deck sizes, multiplayer focus — hasn't been detailed yet.

Gen Con is one of the biggest tabletop gaming conventions in North America, making it a natural venue for early playtesting and community feedback. No release window or official format name has been announced.
