EA hit with another round of layoffs across recruitment, IT, and customer support

EA is cutting staff again, this time across recruitment, IT, customer support, and its trust and safety division. The exact headcount is unknown, but affected roles include remote positions in the US and several experienced staff in Hyderabad, India.

Kotaku broke the story, citing anonymous sources and an internal email sent on June 18th to EA's Fan Care team by a department head. That email references efforts to "adapt how we work to better meet fans' changing needs" and confirms role changes, new positions being created, and work being shifted to different teams, locations, or service partners. Among the confirmed departures is Diana Cornejo, EA's former lead recruiter, who posted on LinkedIn that "after nearly eight years with EA, my time with the company has come to an end as part of the most recent round of layoffs."

This is the third round of cuts at EA in 2025. February saw layoffs at Skate developer Full Circle, and March brought cuts to the Battlefield 6 team — despite that game being one of the best-selling titles of the year. All of this is playing out under the shadow of EA's pending acquisition by a consortium led by Saudi Arabia's state investment fund, backed by a $20 billion loan. Sources told the Financial Times last September that the new owners planned to use generative AI to significantly reduce operating costs and help service that debt — a strategy that has drawn skepticism given that major AI companies are themselves losing billions annually.

The acquisition has already drawn fire from union leaders who called it a move to "pad investor pockets," and from US senators raising concerns about Saudi Arabia's human rights record. With three rounds of layoffs in under six months and a highly leveraged buyout looming, the pressure on EA's workforce shows no sign of easing.
