Eremite Games teases a survival game set in the Against the Storm universe

Eremite Games, the six-person indie studio behind the roguelike city builder Against the Storm, has announced a new project — a survival game set in the same dark, rain-soaked fantasy world. The reveal came via a dev diary post on Steam, accompanied by a brief in-engine clip.

The video shows two robed figures carrying rifles moving through a gloomy, rainy forest toward a log cabin — strongly suggesting co-op multiplayer, though Eremite hasn't confirmed it outright. The studio was upfront about how early this is: the clip is full of placeholders, nearly everything is subject to change, and the game doesn't even have a name yet, let alone a release window. "There's a chance we're showing this way too early," the studio wrote. "We hope you won't hold it against us if the project evolves into something very different. But keeping this under wraps has been torture."

Against the Storm launched out of early access in 2023 to widespread acclaim — PC Gamer named it their best city builder of the year, and Rock Paper Shotgun gave it a Bestest Best. The game's hook was its roguelike structure: your settlement gets wiped out by a catastrophic magical storm at the end of each cycle, but you carry upgrades and experience into the next run. That loop, set against a perpetually grim, rain-drenched world, gave the setting a distinct identity that clearly has more stories to tell. Eremite also addressed the obvious follow-up question — Against the Storm 2 — saying the idea is something they think about often, but for now they wanted to experiment with the survival genre and explore new sides of the universe first.

The studio is still just six people, and they leaned into that transparency as a reason for showing the project so early. No platforms, no release date, and no title have been announced. For fans of the original, it's a tantalizing but deliberately vague first look — expect a long wait before anything concrete surfaces.
