Playground Games dropped a new Fable story trailer at the Xbox Games Showcase and, alongside it, revealed a large chunk of the game's cast. Headlining the list is Hayley Atwell — known for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the recent Mission: Impossible films — as Isabel, the game's main villain. She's joined by ten other notable names, most of them drawn from British film, TV, and comedy.
The Hero of Briar Hill is voiced by two actors depending on player choice: Lily Nichol, whose credits include Renegade Nell and Lockwood & Co., and Ukweli Roach, a veteran of Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Horizon Forbidden West. Matt King — Super Hans from Peep Show — plays Humphry, described as Albion's greatest Hero who has spent recent years hiding in the empty halls of the Heroes' Guild. Susan Wokoma, who voiced Princess Talanji in World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth, plays Arden the Cobbler, a Hero who wants nothing to do with heroism and just wants to make shoes. Richard Ayoade plays Dave the Giant, a self-styled intellectual curmudgeon who accidentally turns himself into a giant — Ayoade's improvisations during rehearsals reportedly made it into the final script. Natasia Demetriou, best known for playing Nadja in What We Do In the Shadows, rounds out the revealed cast as Jenny.
Fable Associate Narrative Director Craig Owens provided character breakdowns and casting rationale for each role. On Atwell: "Hayley's ability to combine vulnerability with strength made her the perfect person to play Isabel." On King: he brought "Super Hans' dark charm" alongside genuine emotional depth. Isabel herself is framed as a grief-driven Hero convinced she's correcting a tragic injustice — which, Owens notes, makes her a particularly dangerous antagonist. The trailer also showed off gameplay including a Balverine encounter, magic combat, and what Xbox Wire diplomatically called "quite a lot of swearing."
Fable has a long history of stacking its casts with prominent British talent, and this lineup continues that tradition in a big way. No release date has been announced yet.
