Flask is the autobattler demo that turns goblin blood into squad-building gold

Flask, a roguelike autobattler published by Ghost Ship Publishing, just dropped a free demo on Steam — and it's quietly winning over players who never thought the genre was for them. The hook is simple: you're a debt-ridden alchemist piloting a mobile tower beyond the Goblin Gate, sending squads of mutant homunculi to harvest goblin blood and claw your way back to solvency.

The squad-building works through three layered systems. Alchemical flasks grant active abilities, snacks add passive perks, and organ grafts shift your overall playstyle. Each homunculus class has multiple ability themes you can mix and stack, and the complexity builds gradually across a run rather than dumping everything on you at once. One standout run featured a Warrior built around a fragile focus buff that converted into a burst of extra attacks, a Rogue that stacked accelerating poison before going into stealth and finishing enemies with a scaling strike, and a Ranger who chained a guaranteed-success flask into a gamble flask to load a rifle with damage-buffed bullets and unload the whole magazine in one devastating barrage. That Ranger combo alone carried the run all the way to the castle at the heart of a ruined goblin metropolis.

Flask is the work of artist John Kenn Mortensen, whose visual style gives the game an immediately distinctive look — scratchy, grotesque, somewhere between a metal album cover, a Hieronymus Bosch triptych, and an Edward Gorey illustration. Ghost Ship Publishing, best known for backing Deep Rock Galactic, is handling publishing duties. The autobattler genre has been growing steadily on PC, but Flask's roguelike structure — where each run is a self-contained gallery of mutant builds — gives it a different texture from the persistent-roster format most genre entries use.
