Free Mario Kart World Update Brings Classic SNES Tracks and Two New Knockout Routes

A free Mario Kart World update drops today, adding playable versions of the classic tracks scattered around the game's open world — pulling directly from the original Super Mario Kart on SNES.

The update adds 10 classic tracks to Vs. Mode, including Choco Island, Vanilla Lake, and Ghost Valley. These courses recreate the original Question Mark panel mechanic, where driving over them grants items — a detail that sets them apart from the rest of the modern roster. On top of that, Knockout Mode gets two new routes: Propeller Rally and Turnip Rally.

Mario Kart World launched on Nintendo Switch 2 as one of the console's flagship titles, and its open-world structure already featured visual recreations of these SNES-era tracks as environmental set dressing. Making them actually raceable is a natural next step — and a smart way to reward players who explored the world and spotted them. The original Super Mario Kart, released in 1992, introduced the series and featured a 20-track roster split across four cups, so seeing those courses get a modern playable outing carries some nostalgia weight.
