GTA 5 Franklin voice actor and Kai Cenat squash beef after broken promise controversy

Shawn "Solo" Fonteno, the voice of Franklin Clinton in GTA 5, went viral in September 2026 after publicly calling out Twitch streamer Kai Cenat for allegedly breaking a promise to a young fan — but the two have since settled things and are on good terms.

Solo laid out the situation on the Dope As Usual podcast. During a 2024 Twitch stream where Solo took Cenat on a tour of the real Los Angeles neighborhoods that inspired GTA 5's Los Santos, Cenat met a kid from a struggling family — Solo described around 15 people living in a one-bedroom home. When the kid asked for a motorcycle, Cenat reportedly said "we gon' make it happen." Solo says that promise never got honored. He spent the following week texting and calling Cenat, even reaching out to fellow streamer Fanum, who he says ignored him. "You gave that kid this promise. And now you're making me look bad, because I brought you here," Solo said on the podcast, adding bluntly: "Bro, you a f**ked up dude for that." Solo estimated the bike would have cost around $1,000–$1,200.

Solo's comments hit hard partly because of who he is in the GTA community. Fonteno has been the face and voice of Franklin Clinton since GTA 5 launched in 2013, and his connection to the real South Los Angeles neighborhoods that shaped the game gives him genuine credibility when it comes to the people and communities depicted in it. The clip spread fast, and Cenat faced a wave of backlash from fans who assumed the two had a serious falling out.

The drama resolved quickly. Just a day after the podcast clip went viral, Solo posted an Instagram comment on September 16 confirming the situation was resolved: "I just talked to Kai and it was an honest mistake and it's fixed. Thanks @kaicenat." No further details were shared about what exactly happened or whether the motorcycle promise was ultimately fulfilled.
