Halloween game's closet sex minigame silently removed after just days in early access

Illfonic's asymmetrical PvP game based on the Halloween slasher franchise launched in deluxe edition early access with a surprisingly explicit feature: two players could sneak into a closet together and have sex, earning buffs for their trouble. Within days, it was quietly hotfixed out — no patch notes, no explanation.

The removal is visible in multiple ways. The most recent patch notes make zero mention of the minigame, but the Steam comment section is full of players demanding it back — one user posted "ADD BACK THE CLOSET MINIGAME" five times consecutively. Lynda, a flirty playable civilian character who previously received bonus benefits tied to the sex minigame, has also had that trait stripped from her kit entirely.

The likely reason for the removal is uncomfortable but fairly obvious. The game allows dead players to respawn as older characters — a police officer, or Dr. Loomis, Michael Myers' therapist — and those characters could apparently proposition the same closet encounter. The problem: Laurie Strode, one of the playable civilians, is canonically 17 years old in the timeline this game depicts. Illfonic hasn't confirmed that's why the feature was pulled, but it's hard to argue with the logic. The studio has been contacted for comment.

The community reaction is exactly what you'd expect — a mix of jokes and genuine frustration. Reddit user Choice-Scholar-2297 called it "lame as hell," and a thread titled "Please add back sex mini game" is gaining traction fast on the game's subreddit. The whole situation has also produced one genuinely absurd footnote: if the change sticks, closet sex will have existed in the game exclusively as a time-limited deluxe edition pre-order bonus.
