Halloween: The Game hotfix quietly removes sex mini-game featuring deceased actor's likeness and underage characters

IllFonic pushed an emergency hotfix for Halloween: The Game before the game even officially launched — and the likely reason is a sex mini-game that let a 56-year-old character sleep with the game's cast of underage teenagers. The game is still in pre-release advanced access for deluxe edition pre-orders, with the full launch set for September 8.

The mini-game was a nod to the classic slasher trope "Sex Signals Death," which runs throughout the Halloween franchise. The problem: one of the playable characters is Samuel Loomis, modeled after the late Donald Pleasence, who was 56 in the original film. Other playable characters include figures like 17-year-old Annie Brackett, pulled directly from the movies. The combination went unnoticed until users on X flagged it on September 5, less than 24 hours before Hotfix 1 dropped. The patch notes make no mention of the mini-game, but posts on the game's subreddit confirm it's been removed entirely. IllFonic has also stayed silent on the matter across Discord and all official social channels.

Halloween: The Game is an asymmetrical multiplayer survival horror title — think Dead by Daylight's structure applied to the Halloween IP — developed by IllFonic, the studio behind Friday the 13th: The Game and Predator: Hunting Grounds. The sex mini-game mechanic itself isn't inherently unusual for a horror game leaning into genre tropes, but the oversight of pairing a deceased real actor's likeness with underage fictional characters is a significant QA failure, however unintentional.

IllFonic hasn't publicly addressed the removal, and Kotaku reached out for comment without a response at time of publication. The sub-24-hour turnaround on the fix is fast, but the fact it made it through QA in the first place is the bigger question. Whether a reworked version of the mini-game returns post-launch — with Loomis excluded — remains to be seen.
