Henry Cavill Is Producing a Warhammer 40K Animated Series for Amazon

Henry Cavill is adding an animated Warhammer 40K series to his Amazon slate — Variety reports he's on board as executive producer for a show spun directly out of the Warhammer episode of Secret Level, Tim Miller's 2024 gaming anthology series.

Blur Studios is producing alongside Amazon MGM and Games Workshop. Dave Wilson, who directed that original Secret Level episode, returns as co-creator and director, partnering with John Orloff, known for Band of Brothers. Miller and Natalie Viscuso — currently attached to a Judge Dredd project — round out the executive producer list. The story centers on the Deathwatch, an elite Space Marine faction that hunts alien threats. Wilson described the fan response to the Secret Level episode as "extraordinary," adding that the series gives the team a chance to "build on that foundation and tell a much larger story."

Cavill has been publicly obsessed with Warhammer 40K for years, and his involvement with Amazon's live-action 40K project was first rumored back in December 2022. That show — where Cavill is set to star in a leading role — is still listed as "in development." Amazon signaled in 2023 it wanted to build out the license across TV and film, and by late 2024 negotiations had reportedly wrapped with scripts set to begin. Nearly two years on from that announcement, there's been no casting news and no sign of cameras rolling.

The animated series at least gives the 40K Amazon universe something concrete to point to. Whether the live-action show ever catches up remains the bigger question — and Cavill's Instagram, currently dominated by posts about a new backyard smoker, isn't offering any clues.
