Killzone remake reportedly in early development with People Can Fly co-developing

Sony is reportedly in the early stages of reviving Killzone, with sources telling MP1st that a remake of an older entry in the series is in development. People Can Fly — the studio behind Bulletstorm and Outriders — is strongly indicated as the co-developer, which lines up with the previously announced Project Delta, a confirmed PS5 game based on a Sony IP.

Guerrilla Games is said to be collaborating with People Can Fly on the project, though which Killzone entry is getting the remake treatment hasn't been confirmed. The original Killzone, released on PS2 in 2004, is a reasonable guess. Guerrilla's involvement is described as a future commitment — the studio is currently focused on rebooting Horizon multiplayer spinoff Hunters Gathering after negative feedback, and according to Bloomberg, has until December to hit a key milestone on that project. A small team is also quietly working on a third Horizon single-player game, though that's still years out.

Killzone was Guerrilla's flagship franchise before Horizon Zero Dawn launched in 2017 and changed the studio's trajectory entirely. The last mainline entry, Killzone Shadow Fall, shipped as a PS4 launch title in 2013, and the series has been dormant since. In 2024, Guerrilla art director Roy Postma was candid about the studio's feelings: "We were done with it as a team. As a studio, we needed to refresh the palette. It was, by choice, the opposite of Killzone." Postma also noted that Horizon's themes have broader appeal across ages and audiences — a clear signal that Guerrilla itself isn't rushing back to the Helghast.

A remake handled by People Can Fly would let Sony test the waters for a potential full Killzone revival without pulling Guerrilla away from Horizon. Fans have been calling for the series to return for years, so the reaction is likely to be enthusiastic — though with everything still in very early development, there's no release window or official confirmation yet.
