Langrisser: Sea of Sword gameplay trailer reveals dual-general system and destructible battlefields

BlackJack Studio has dropped the first gameplay trailer for Langrisser: Sea of Sword, giving the clearest look yet at how the next entry in the long-running tactical RPG series plays. The game is heading to iOS, Android, Steam, and PC simultaneously worldwide, and pre-registration is open now on the official website.

The headline mechanical addition is a dual-generals system — you deploy two generals at once, designating one as commander and one as lieutenant, and can mix the soldier types of both into a single squad. You can swap their roles mid-battle, changing which skills are available and shifting the unit's tactical function on the fly. Pair the right generals together and they trigger unique cooperative skills, so experimenting with combinations is actively rewarded. Battlefields are also far more dynamic than the series has offered before: terrain types vary widely, elevation affects combat outcomes, and environments are destructible. Siege scenarios let you breach walls, and you can drop bridges to cut off enemy routes or send troops straight into the void. Outside of combat, the game ditches the old disconnected map structure in favor of explorable areas — towns, forests, caves — with environmental puzzles, NPC side stories, material gathering, and hidden events. Players also claim and develop a territory that grows from a basic encampment into a full military stronghold.

The story follows a nameless protagonist and a mysterious white-haired girl named Eta crossing a continent shrouded in the Sea of Mists, caught up in a brutal faction war. The tone is deliberately darker than recent Langrisser entries, leaning into moral choices and political struggle rather than straightforward heroics. Composer Yasunori Nishiki — best known as lead composer on the Octopath Traveler series, for which he was nominated for Best Music at The Game Awards — is handling the soundtrack, bringing his signature sweeping orchestral style to the game. The hand-painted anime art style the series is known for is intact, just more detailed. BlackJack Studio previously developed Langrisser Mobile in 2018, which is still actively supported, but Sea of Sword represents a clear generational step up in both scope and fidelity. The Langrisser franchise itself stretches back to 1991, with the original game reaching Western audiences as Warsong in 1992.
