Marvel Rivals hotfix buffs Strategists and nerfs Psylocke after Season 9 launch

NetEase dropped two rapid-fire balance patches for Marvel Rivals this week — version 20260710 alongside the Season 9 launch, and an emergency hotfix version 20260711 just days later. The quick follow-up came after battlefield telemetry and community feedback flagged issues with the new meta.

The biggest global change in the hotfix partially walks back the Season 9 ult energy nerf for Strategists: healing-to-energy conversion climbs back from 60% to 70%, giving supports more breathing room to charge their ultimates. On the Duelist side, Cyclops and Phoenix both get damage bumps — Cyclops sees Optic Blast tick damage go from 21 to 22 and Ricochet Force direct hit from 70 to 75, while Phoenix's Cosmic Flames jump from 55 to 60 per hit. Black Widow picks up a minor buff too, with Red Room Rifle damage rising from 40 to 45 and Electro-plasma Blast scaling up from 40–60 to 50–70. Psylocke is the clear loser of the hotfix: her Psionic Crossbow base damage drops from 13 to 12, damage falloff now kicks in at 8m instead of 15m, and her Team-Up bonuses with both Emma Frost and Cloak & Dagger are trimmed. Iron Man's Unibeam outer ring damage is also cut when running the Thor Team-Up. A Black Panther bug — where his recoverable shield restoration was incorrectly stacking a damage boost — is fixed. Gambit gets a noticeable support buff, with self-healing after Healing Hearts rising from 20/s to 30/s and Bridge Boost healing per bounce jumping from 50 to 65.

The Season 9 launch patch (20260710) was itself a sweeping overhaul. It introduced Regenerative Shields as a new health type — if a hero avoids damage for five seconds, their shield pool fully regenerates over the next five seconds — and cut ult energy generation across the board, reducing damage-to-energy conversion for Vanguards and Duelists from 70% to 55% and dropping Strategist healing-to-energy from 75% to 60%. That energy nerf was explicitly designed to slow down the pace of ultimate usage in the new Team-Up meta, which is why the hotfix's partial revert for Strategists is notable: supports were struggling to keep up under the combined pressure of the new system.

The speed of the follow-up patch signals NetEase is watching the Season 9 meta closely, and the studio says further recalibrations are coming as new threats emerge. With Psylocke hit hard and Cyclops, Phoenix, and Black Widow all nudged upward, the Duelist tier is clearly still in flux — expect more adjustments as ranked play data accumulates.
