Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 adds Airbus A380 DLC for $74.49 — more than the game itself

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is getting the Airbus A380, and it costs $74.49 — which is more than the base game's $70 price tag. The superjumbo is available now on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5 exclusively through the Flight Simulator Marketplace as part of the Exclusive Series, but only for the next three months.

Developed in partnership with iniBuilds, the A380 is a deeply detailed recreation of the world's largest commercial passenger airliner. It ships with two liveries at launch, full flight deck modeling with extensive interactive controls, a layered avionics suite covering navigation, autopilot, flight management, and aircraft monitoring, and two engine variants with distinct performance differences. The flight model was built specifically around the A380's enormous mass and inertia. On the more unusual end, the add-on also includes functional onboard showers and — yes — potable water and waste simulation. A cockpit printer is in there too.

The A380 is a genuine aviation icon: a four-engine wide-body operated by around 10 airlines including Emirates, British Airways, Qantas, and Lufthansa, with fewer than 200 currently in service worldwide. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 launched to strong reviews — IGN gave it a 9/10 — and has received over a dozen content updates since, including a VR release. The Exclusive Series format, with its three-month availability window, is designed to create limited-run premium add-ons for the sim's most dedicated players.

The price is already drawing raised eyebrows from the community — paying more for a single plane than for the entire game is a hard sell, even for a meticulously crafted add-on. Whether the level of detail justifies the cost is a debate that's very much alive right now.
