Mortal Shell 2 launches August 20 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S

Cold Symmetry has locked in a release date for Mortal Shell 2 — the Soulslike sequel arrives August 20, 2026 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Pre-orders are live now across all three platforms.

The standard edition is priced at $49.99 / £39.99 / €49.99. The Devout Edition costs $59.99 / £47.99 / €59.99 and includes three days of early access — meaning Devout buyers can jump in on August 17 — plus the Obsidian skin set, which adds an extra outfit for each of the game's eight Shells.

Mortal Shell 2 lands in one of the most congested release windows in recent memory. Just one week later, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, Star Wars Zero Company, and Metal Gear Solid Collection: Volume 2 all drop on the same day. The weeks surrounding it are equally stacked, with The Sinking City 2 arriving two days before and The Blood of Dawnwalker and Onimusha: Way of the Sword following two weeks after. Much of that competition overlaps in the action RPG space, so players will have some hard choices to make. Cold Symmetry's original Mortal Shell was a well-regarded indie Soulslike that carved out a niche with its unique Shell-possession mechanic, and the sequel has been in development for some time.

For anyone on the fence, an open beta is currently available on Steam with several hours of gameplay to try. Eurogamer's hands-on with the beta clocked nearly six hours and came away impressed, which should give the game a decent word-of-mouth push heading into launch.
