MTG Marvel Super Heroes breaks records but Final Fantasy is still Magic's biggest set ever

Hasbro's Q2 2026 earnings call confirmed that Magic: The Gathering's Marvel Super Heroes set broke multiple sales records — but Final Fantasy still holds the crown as the biggest Magic set of all time.

CEO Chris Cocks announced that Magic eclipsed $500 million in quarterly revenue for the first time in the game's 33-year history, driven by Marvel Super Heroes and Secrets of Strixhaven, the latter already declared the best-selling in-universe set ever. Together, the two sets pushed a 32% revenue increase for Magic in Q2. Marvel Super Heroes, which launched globally on June 26, set records for day one and month one revenue and became the fastest set to reach $300 million. Cocks called Magic "one of the most consistent compounding franchises in entertainment" and "a genuine peer to the biggest names in gaming."

When pressed on whether Marvel Super Heroes had overtaken Final Fantasy as Magic's all-time biggest set, Cocks walked it back. "Currently it's Final Fantasy," he said. "Final Fantasy is fantastic. It continues to get reordered today." CFO Gina Goetter was equally direct, calling Marvel Super Heroes the "second largest" Universes Beyond set and noting it's "not quite as big as Final Fantasy yet." That "yet" is doing a lot of work — Final Fantasy shattered the record previously held by The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth, pulling in over $200 million in a single day at launch, a figure that took Lord of the Rings six months to reach.

Whether Marvel Super Heroes can close the gap over time remains an open question. Goetter's phrasing leaves the door open, but matching Final Fantasy's sustained reorder momentum would be a tall order. For now, Magic is having one of its strongest financial years on record, and the Universes Beyond strategy — pulling in Final Fantasy, Marvel, and Lord of the Rings fans — is clearly working.
