Dan Gregor and Doug Mand are writing the screenplay — the duo previously worked together on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, How I Met Your Mother, and the 2025 Naked Gun reboot. No director is attached yet. Producing the film are Original Film's Neal H. Moritz and Toby Ascher, joined by Toru Nakahara, who produced the Sonic the Hedgehog film series. "This film is for anyone who's spent hours behind the wheel of a yellow cab on their Dreamcast, with the music cranked up, smashing through everything in sight just to make the next fare," Moritz and Ascher said in the official Netflix press release. The Netflix-Sega deal also includes a new Sonic animated series targeting a preschool audience and a live-action movie based on Stranger Than Heaven, the latest game from RGG Studio — the team behind the Yakuza and Like a Dragon series.
Crazy Taxi has a surprisingly long history of almost making it to the big screen.
