Old School RuneScape players are staging an organic religious war in the Wilderness

Old School RuneScape players have organised a community-driven religious war, with hundreds of Saradomin followers donning brown robes, equipping air staves, and loading up on cooked lobster before charging into the Wilderness PvP zone. No developer involvement, no in-game reward — just players throwing themselves into danger for the fun of it.

Last weekend, the Saradominist mob gathered at the Edgeville monastery, pushed through the Wilderness, stormed the Revenant Caves — a notorious PvP ganking hotspot and source of valuable Rev weapons — and ultimately claimed the chaos temple as their own. A second raid is already scheduled for this weekend on world 331, open to anyone who wants to join. This time there will be resistance: a Zamorakian faction, decked out in red robes and aligned with demonic forces, has publicly declared they will defend the chaos temple, setting up a direct clash between the two sides.

The whole thing fits neatly into Old School RuneScape lore. The conflict between Saradomin and Zamorak is the narrative backbone of the RuneScape universe — the God Wars shaped the Wilderness into the ruined, dangerous PvP zone it is today, and there is an entire dungeon dedicated to that ongoing divine conflict. Players essentially roleplaying that war in a live PvP environment is about as on-brand as it gets for the game.

There are no XP rewards, no rare drops, and the gear involved sells for next to nothing on the Grand Exchange. This is pure community-organised roleplay, the kind of emergent player-driven event that MMORPGs are built for. With an opposing faction now in the mix, this weekend's clash on world 331 should be considerably messier than the first.
