Poinpy Is Now Free on iOS and Android

Poinpy, the mobile platformer from Downwell creator Ojiro Fumoto (aka Moppin), is now free to download on iOS and Android. The game previously lived behind Netflix's game subscription and quietly left that service last summer — now anyone can grab it at no cost.

In Poinpy, you play as a green blob that has to climb upward using a limited set of bouncy jumps, collecting fruit ingredients to brew juice and keep a pursuing monster at bay. It's a tight, arcade-style loop that earned an 8/10 from Kyle Hilliard at GameSpot when it originally launched. The soundtrack was composed by Calum Bowen, who also handled sound design on the mystery game The Mermaid Mask.

Fumoto has been busy beyond Poinpy — he was one of the developers on the acclaimed indie anthology UFO 50 and directed Seaside Drive. Downwell, his breakout game, remains a touchstone for minimalist mobile design, so Poinpy going free is a solid chance to catch up on his catalog.
