Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor is finally coming to Steam and GOG

Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor, the 2001 D&D dungeon crawler that quietly faded after a disappointing launch, is getting its first-ever digital release on Steam and GOG. Publisher SNEG is handling the revival, with a Q4 2025 release window.

Details are sparse for now. SNEG says the game is being updated to run on modern systems, but specifics on what exactly is being fixed or enhanced won't land until closer to launch. That's worth watching closely — Ruins of Myth Drannor shipped in rough shape back in 2001, plagued by bugs and criticised for shallow combat that couldn't hold a candle to Baldur's Gate 2, despite strong pre-release hype and a genuinely impressive big-box collector's edition from original publisher Ubisoft.

The game arrived during the golden age of isometric D&D RPGs, riding the wave that Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2 created. Unlike those BioWare classics, or Troika's Temple of Elemental Evil — which the Circle of Eight modding community eventually transformed into a deeply faithful D&D experience — Ruins of Myth Drannor never found its footing. Whether a modern re-release with compatibility fixes can rehabilitate it, or whether it was simply a trend-chaser that hasn't aged into anything more interesting, remains an open question.

Ruins of Myth Drannor is one of several older titles SNEG is bringing back to digital storefronts. Also in the pipeline are Warlords 4: Heroes of Etheria, Soldiers at War, Dark Earth, Ecstatica 1 and 2, and Soldiers of War. SNEG director Artem Shchuiko said the studio believes these games "deserve to be available again — for players who remember them, for people discovering them for the first time, and hopefully even for creators who may find a spark of inspiration in these lost gems." In the meantime, SNEG is running a Steam publisher sale with discounts up to 90%, including several classic D&D titles, running until July 27.
